About the project
Just sharing what the desert gives us.
Big Bend Wild is a personal project born from my love of the nature, solitude, and remarkable quiet of Far West Texas. I live in this part of Texas and record most of the audio featured on this site myself. Many of the photographs and videos are also moments I've captured while living here.
There is a peace to this landscape that can be difficult to describe. Far from the constant noise of cities and traffic, sometimes the desert becomes so quiet that I like to say, "you can hear the earth turn."
That's really what Big Bend Wild is about — sharing a little of that experience with others. The birds in the morning, wildlife passing through, wind across the desert, an approaching storm, or simply the sound of almost nothing at all.
This isn't a commercial tourism site or an attraction. It's simply a growing collection of moments from Far West Texas that I enjoy and thought others might enjoy seeing and hearing too.
Identifying the Birds
To help identify birds heard in my recordings, I use BirdNET-Analyzer . BirdNET analyzes audio recordings to suggest bird species that may be present. Because these are computer-assisted identifications, species identified through BirdNET are described on this site as likely identifications rather than confirmed field observations.
Recordings, Photos & Video
Most of the audio on Big Bend Wild is recorded by me, and many of the photographs and videos are my own as well. When I use an outside photograph — for example, to show what a bird identified in one of my recordings looks like — the photographer, original source, and applicable license are credited with the image.
About the location
I live in the greater Big Bend region of Far West Texas, and most of the original recordings, photographs, and videos on this site come from this area. To maintain the privacy of my home and surrounding private property, I don't publish a specific address, road, recording location, or GPS coordinates.

Just the sights and sounds of Far West Texas.
This site exists simply to share the quieter side of the region with anyone who enjoys nature.
